Incidentally, this is also why cannabis was made illegal.
Pot was criminalized in many states staring in the 1920s along with cocaine and heroin. It was taxed in 1937 as a commodity crop (hemp) and used in ropemaking for the Second World War.. At the state levels, (esp. in the south) because it was well known as being used in the Jazz commmunity and âjazz cigarettesâ represented moral peril to the innocent white women whoâd smoke it and get hooked and end up fucking the black men. (And oh God no.. we canât have that!)
By 1970, it was fully criminalized nationally esp. because of the whole drug culture of the late 60âs and the Vietnam anti-war protest movement. It wasnât just pot, but LSD, speed, quaaludes.. all of it.
Huey Longâs politics and the Black Panthers were one part of it, but the entire thing was in response to the boomers finally shaking off the post-war straitjackets theyâd been raised in..
If you want a good look at the culture of those fucked up years and the ideation of the times that MAGA is pretending they want to âget back toâ check out David Hoffmanâs youtube channel
Itâs amazing stuff.
âYou want to know what this was really all about?
The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and Black people. You understand what Iâm saying? We knew we couldnât make it illegal to be either against the war or Black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and Blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.â
-John Ehrlichman, President Richard Nixonâs domestic policy chief
Whoo! Didnât know that quote directly, thank you for sharing it.. Erlichmqn was one of the people that while I was growing up, my mother would absolutely hiss about. People loathed him.
Who is that in the second image? Looks a bit like modern Black Panthers.
It itâs a modern Black Panther revival
Dude to the right is their leader

Based! đ€
I think itâs Philadelphia Black Panthers because I saw a couple of vids of them recently making a stand against police but I could be wrong.
You are correct.
PREACH!
I work with an Alex Jones fan.. He went batshit a few years ago when up in Michigan, black men with semi-automatic rifles were seen publicly protecting their representatives after the whole MAGA kidnapping thing unfolded.
His line was âThe blacks are being trained for the race war!â And I scoffed and asked him if he remembered the video I showed him of the gang bangers in Chicago having a running gun battle as they tore up the streets in their cars.. I was like, âDude, the brothers already know how to use guns.. What do you think the metal detectors in high schools in the inner cities for the last few decades has been about?â
Oh yeah.. the penny dropped and he went quiet about it pretty quick.
Which was amazing because at the time the guy never shut up about all the MAGA conspiracies. Drove me up a tree.
Just like their support for free speech.
I donât frequent right-wing spaces, but are many genuinely upset about the BPP resurgence in Philly? If so, what are the mental gymnastics?
I doubt newsmax is reporting on it
