If you live in New England I can offer an anecdote that translates this thought.
You know how stone walls are fucking everywhere? They are things. The things they are⦠Are a lot more of a thing than the thing they immitate.
The OG stone walls in new England were settlers literally moving glacial erratics to their property line so they could plough/farm. People thought it was an aesthetic way to demarcate property lines, so they started buying rocks to make these walls.
The themes he explores are very much adult, and challenging, and human.
Some of his books are young adult and the writing is a little⦠more straightforward? Is how I would put it? Fewer footnotes and footnotes in footnotes. I read all of them as an adult, and the Tiffany Aching series is among my top favourite books of all time.
What I mean to say is, just because you read it as a teen doesnāt make it childrenās books. I read the entire Lord of the Rings including the Simallarion at 12 but that doesnāt make it childrenās books. And the actual teen fiction he writes is fantastic.
Edit: sorry I came in hot. I thought you were downplaying Sir Terry Pratchettās talent and came in swinging without thinking.
All good; Sir Terry is my favorite author of all time.
I re-read all of discworld at the start of the year. I usually do another read through every 3-4 years; Iāve read through all of them 7 or 8 times by nowā¦.
āThings that try to look like things often do look more like things than things. Well-known fact,ā said Granny. āBut I donāt hold with encouraging it.ā

And now revisit the quote.
And now you can have a faux stone wall inside your home
Thatās not all stucco is it?
Dinosaur nuggets?
Itās like the things arenāt even trying to look like things
Apply this to āIs it cake?ā
Charlie Chaplin look alike contest
This is true but have you really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
Have you ever had a dreamā¦
āYou want them to do you so much you can do anythingā?
Iām not gonna tell a CHILD the answer to that question! š¬
I donātā¦?
My gut says maybe
MAGA posters on Twitter in a nutshell
Is this about AI?
No. That was a character explaining why crowns in the theater are so much more impressive than the actual crown worn by the king.
Terry Pratchett died ten years ago
And I still havenāt found anyone half as good
I didnāt really think he said this about AI. Just seemed relevant.
a few commas would have made that so much easier to read
Which is why he didnāt add them
And less fun
Wise to a half-wit.
Nothing wise about a vague, incomplete statement.
Sir Terry, was an absolute gem of a human. He wrapped philosophy in comedy and fed it to (mainly) children; the world is better because of his work.
If you want to understand; check out the boots theory
Most of his books were for adults.
Really, I would place them at teen fiction level.
I started reading them at around 15.

My favourite too. Looking forward to the yearly rewatch of Hogfather.
GNU, Sir Terry.
